A Better Start Southend is a ten-year programme aiming to make Southend the best place in the country to be a child - and a parent. We are bringing parents, carers and professionals together to develop services for young children and their families, because we believe we will only be successful if we work with the people who understand Southend’s children best.
The programme here is one of five Big Lottery funded Better Start sites across the country and is being delivered in Southend by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, the largest early years membership organisation in England.
We are working with local partner organisations and aim to transform the life chances of young children in the six wards across Southend that we work in (Kursaal, Milton, Shoeburyness, Victoria, Westborough and West Shoebury) by investing in services and support for families from pregnancy up to a child's fourth birthday.
Our key focus is on the following children’s developmental areas, and we run free projects related to:
Communication and language
Diet and nutrition
Social and emotional development
If you’re a parent or carer of a child under four years-old, if you’re expecting a baby, or if you work with young children, please be sure to find out more at www.abetterstartsouthend.co.uk or like us on Facebook.
